In Memory of Women

Zainab Abdullahi, pictured above, had studied economics and was employed by the previous government of Afghanistan. She was killed last night after being shot by the Taliban in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighbourhood in western Kabul. The Taliban said that she was mistakenly shot.

Alia Aziz, above, the director of a women's prison in Herat province, was kidnapped by the Taliban four months ago. She is still missing and her family has no information about her.

U describes this as the situation for women in Afghanistan.

"The Taliban are killing educated women and girls every day but they do not allow the media to announce it."
