Children's voices - Street Interviews (part 2)


SH, U's friend, continues to interview children in the streets.


SH: What is your name?

Child 1: Abdul Kabir.

SH: What are you doing Abdul Kabir?

AK (Child 1): I polish shoes.

SH: Do you have any supporter at home?

AK (Child 1): No


SH asks the second Child: What is your name?

Child 2: Mir Ahmad

SH: Are you going to school?

MH (Child 2): Yes, I am going to school.

SH:What grade are you in school?

MH (Child 2): Grade two.

SH: What are you doing now?

MH (Child 2): I am polishing shoes.

SH: Do you have any supporter at home?

MH (Child 2): No

SH: What does your father do?

MH (Child 2): He is a labourer.


SH asks the first child again: What does your father do?

AK (Child 1): He was a hard labour worker but now he is unemployed.

SH: Where you are living?

MH (Child 2): We are living in Khaskapa (a village in northeast of Afghanistan).


SH asks the third child: What is your name?

Child 3: Saifuddin

SH: What are you doing?

S (Child 3): I am also polishing shoes.

SH: What does your father do?

S (Child 3): We are 6 people at home and my father collects sand from the river to sell.

SH: Are you going to school?

S (Child 3): Now it's holiday.



SH: What is your name?

Child: Yosif

SH: What are you doing dear Yosif?


(U tells me that Yosif didn’t respond. She thinks he feels ashamed.)

His friend responds: We are collecting plastic rubbish from the street.

SH: What do you do with these plastics?

Child 2: I don't know, I am collecting these for him.

SH: Dear Yosif, why you are collecting these?

Yosif (Child 1): We burn these to warm our house.

SH: What does your father do?

Child 2: He sells bread.

SH: Do you have any older brothers?

Child 2: No, he has an older sister and a younger brother.

SH: Ok, good luck.
