An Afghan Women's Activist Responds

I had put out a call for women's accounts of their experiences through my various networks. As chance would have it, I was able to reconnect to A, a woman I used to work with when she was in Afghanistan. It happened quite suddenly one day, ten years ago, that I couldn't connect to her anymore. A few days ago I learnt she and her family had found sanctuary at that time in a country outside Afghanistan.

"As a women's activist my life was under serious threat, my husband was also under high risk. We could not continue our life in Afghanistan. Though it is very difficult to stay away from family, women, colleagues and friends, we had no choice. In order to save our lives and our children we had to flee...

I have contact with my family members and some of the women who worked with me but these days it is very difficult to reach them because the Taliban destroys the connections equipment and there is no electricity. I will try to establish connection with those who are under the Taliban control and if I am able to find some stories for sure I will share with you."
